These thoughts are shared out of love and concern for those around me. I write due to the convictions placed on my heart on these matters.
Who are we to tell others how to live by their faith? If you feel frustrated by what other believers are saying, remember that it is not us to show them the True Way, but the help those who know nothing of it. We already have someone who has shown us the True Way, that is Jesus Christ. Are you more righteous than He? You cannot condemn the words of others through righteousness without first having righteousness through Christ.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
Where do your offenses lie? Are they made there to try to correct and educate? Do you hold more power than God in doing this? Can you convict the hearts of man without Him? Nay, it is not for us to lead the way for those who have been found, but for those who are lost. We are to be innocent in the sight of man, not quarreling over petty laws. True conviction comes from the Lord and it is Him that will correct our ways.
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
2 Timothy 2:24-26
What are the true convictions of your strife with men? Are they your own? Are you so set in your own understanding that you cannot see the truth and power behind the Lord? Would He ask you to choose the path of correction towards your fellow brothers and sisters? Though you speak of love, love is not found in your words. Though you claim to mean no offense, offense is throughly given. Is this the way of Christ?
It is not for us to be concerned of their doings, it is the Lord’s. If they are incorrect in their ways He will cause them to see it. Are you not, therefore, trusting in yourself over Him by trying to change the hearts of those around you? Who is able to change the hearts of men? For they will not change through words of man, but through touching of the heart from the Lord.
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Are you forgiving your brother in Christ of what you feel is wrong? You speak of not knowing if they truly know God, but who are you to make such assumptions in regards to faith of the Almighty? Are your efforts truly made in love or are you convincing yourself that your actions are of “good deeds.” Where are you helping those who are lost? Why do you concern yourself with the flock that is still near?
It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
Though others will quarrel and bicker about the laws does that therefore mean you are to do the same? To correct them of their ways and words? For unless you are truly living in the Lord how can you say you know what is true when all truth comes from God?
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
2 Timothy 2:23
For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1 Corinthians 3:3
Who’s voice are you trying to make known? Is it your own or through the Lord you are speaking? Nay, the Lord would show mercy and love, not contemptuous words, bitter and hard to swallow. Doing more harm than good. Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying. For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envying, wrath, strifes, backbiting, whisperings, swellings, tumults: And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
2 Corinthians 12:19-21
If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.
1 Timothy 6:3-5
Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.
2 Timothy 2:14
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
1 Corinthians 1:10-14
Are you truly of Christ or are you consumed with your own findings that you have forgotten the Word in which you read? The Word of God is meaningless without God Himself. Therefore, if you do not live with God and seek His counsel, His word is but a clanging cymbal in the ears of others. How do you expect to convince others of your words without His presence and words of advice? It is not for us to win others over, but through Christ that we are allowed to do so. It is not OUR words but His.
And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.
Whose words are you truly seeking? Whose truth are you claiming? The truth derived from your own mind or the truth given by the Lord in your heart? Ask yourself these questions and no longer let debates rule over your life or your thoughts. It is not for you to debate but is for the Lord to correct those who are unjust in their teachings. We are told to watch out and stay away from false doctrine and teachings, not to argue and dispute them. Pray for guidance in all areas, for your words are harsh and unloving.
Pride in your self-proclaimed understanding will be your downfall when the Lord decides to humble you for His purpose. Ask the true desires of your heart unto the Lord.
