Be Partakers in the Divine Nature

According as his divine power hath
given unto us all things that
pertain unto life and godliness,
through the knowledge of him that
hath called us to glory and
virtue:
Whereby are given unto us
exceeding great and precious
promises: that by these ye might
be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that
is in the world through lust.

And beside this, giving all
diligence, add to your faith
virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and
to temperance patience; and to
patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly
kindness; and to brotherly
kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and
abound, they make you that ye
shall neither be barren nor
unfruitful in the knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ.

But he that lacketh these things
is blind, and cannot see afar off,
and hath forgotten that he was
purged from his old sins.

Wherefore the rather, brethren,
give diligence to make your
calling and election sure: for if
ye do these things, ye shall never
fall:
For so an entrance shall be
ministered unto you abundantly
into the everlasting kingdom of
our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:3-11

Turn ye not aside

And Samuel said unto the people,
Fear not: ye have done all this
wickedness: yet turn not aside
from following the LORD, but serve
the LORD with all your heart;

And turn ye not aside: for then
should ye go after vain things,
which cannot profit nor deliver;
for they are vain.

For the LORD will not forsake his
people for his great name’s sake:
because it hath pleased the LORD
to make you his people.

1 Samuel 12:20-22

Psalm 73

Truly God is good to Israel, even
to such as are of a clean heart.
But as for me, my feet were almost
gone; my steps had well nigh
slipped.
For I was envious at the foolish,
when I saw the prosperity of the
wicked.
For there are no bands in their
death: but their strength is firm.
They are not in trouble as other
men; neither are they plagued like
other men.
Therefore pride compasseth them
about as a chain; violence
covereth them as a garment.
Their eyes stand out with fatness:
they have more than heart could
wish.
They are corrupt, and speak
wickedly concerning oppression:
they speak loftily.
They set their mouth against the
heavens, and their tongue walketh
through the earth.
Therefore his people return
hither: and waters of a full cup
are wrung out to them.
And they say, How doth God know?
and is there knowledge in the most
High?
Behold, these are the ungodly, who
prosper in the world; they
increase in riches.
Verily I have cleansed my heart in
vain, and washed my hands in
innocency.
For all the day long have I been
plagued, and chastened every
morning.
If I say, I will speak thus;
behold, I should offend against
the generation of thy children.
When I thought to know this, it
was too painful for me;
Until I went into the sanctuary of
God; then understood I their end.
Surely thou didst set them in
slippery places: thou castedst
them down into destruction.
How are they brought into
desolation, as in a moment! they
are utterly consumed with terrors.
As a dream when one awaketh; so, O
Lord, when thou awakest, thou
shalt despise their image.
Thus my heart was grieved, and I
was pricked in my reins.
So foolish was I, and ignorant: I
was as a beast before thee.
Nevertheless I am continually with
thee: thou hast holden me by my
right hand.
Thou shalt guide me with thy
counsel, and afterward receive me
to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but thee?
and there is none upon earth that
I desire beside thee.
My flesh and my heart faileth: but
God is the strength of my heart,
and my portion for ever.
For, lo, they that are far from
thee shall perish: thou hast
destroyed all them that go a
whoring from thee.
But it is good for me to draw near
to God: I have put my trust in the
Lord GOD, that I may declare all
thy works.

Blessed is the name of the Lord

And my spirit hath rejoiced in God
my Saviour.
For he hath regarded the low
estate of his handmaiden: for,
behold, from henceforth all
generations shall call me blessed.
For he that is mighty hath done to
me great things; and holy is his
name.
And his mercy is on them that fear
him from generation to generation.
He hath shewed strength with his
arm; he hath scattered the proud
in the imagination of their
hearts.
He hath put down the mighty from
their seats, and exalted them of
low degree.
He hath filled the hungry with
good things; and the rich he hath
sent empty away.
He hath holpen his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy;
As he spake to our fathers, to
Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

Luke 1:47-55

Thus saith the LORD concerning the
prophets that make my people err, that
bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and
he that putteth not into their mouths,
they even prepare war against him.
Therefore night shall be unto you, that
ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be
dark unto you, that ye shall not divine;
and the sun shall go down over the
prophets, and the day shall be dark over
them.
Then shall the seers be ashamed, and
the diviners confounded: yea, they shall
all cover their lips; for there is no
answer of God.
But truly I am full of power by the spirit
of the LORD, and of judgment, and of
might, to declare unto Jacob his
transgression, and to Israel his sin.
Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the
house of Jacob, and princes of the
house of Israel, that abhor judgment,
and pervert all equity.

They build up Zion with blood, and
Jerusalem with iniquity.

The heads thereof judge for reward, and
the priests thereof teach for hire, and
the prophets thereof divine for money:
yet will they lean upon the LORD, and
say, Is not the LORD among us? none
evil can come upon us.

Therefore shall Zion for your sake be
plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall
become heaps, and the mountain of the
house as the high places of the forest.

Micah 3:5-12

A lamentation for the day of the LORD

Hear ye this word which I take up
against you, even a lamentation, O
house of Israel.
The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no
more rise: she is forsaken upon her
land; there is none to raise her up.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city
that went out by a thousand shall leave
an hundred, and that which went forth
by an hundred shall leave ten, to the
house of Israel.

For thus saith the LORD unto the house
of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:
But seek not Bethel, nor enter into
Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for
Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and
Bethel shall come to nought.

Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he
break out like fire in the house of
Joseph, and devour it, and there be
none to quench it in Bethel.

Ye who turn judgment to wormwood,
and leave off righteousness in the earth,
Seek him that maketh the seven stars
and Orion, and turneth the shadow of
death into the morning, and maketh the
day dark with night: that calleth for the
waters of the sea, and poureth them out
upon the face of the earth: The LORD is
his name:
That strengtheneth the spoiled against
the strong, so that the spoiled shall
come against the fortress.
They hate him that rebuketh in the gate,
and they abhor him that speaketh
uprightly.
Forasmuch therefore as your treading is
upon the poor, and ye take from him
burdens of wheat: ye have built houses
of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in
them; ye have planted pleasant
vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of
them.
For I know your manifold
transgressions and your mighty sins:
they afflict the just, they take a bribe,
and they turn aside the poor in the gate
from their right.

Therefore the prudent shall keep silence
in that time; for it is an evil time.
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live:
and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall
be with you, as ye have spoken.
Hate the evil, and love the good, and
establish judgment in the gate: it may
be that the LORD God of hosts will be
gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts,
the LORD, saith thus; Wailing shall be in
all streets; and they shall say in all the
highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call
the husbandman to mourning, and such
as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.
And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for
I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.

Woe unto you that desire the day of the
LORD! to what end is it for you? the day
of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
As if a man did flee from a lion, and a
bear met him; or went into the house,
and leaned his hand on the wall, and a
serpent bit him.
Shall not the day of the LORD be
darkness, and not light? even very dark,
and no brightness in it?
I hate, I despise your feast days, and I
will not smell in your solemn
assemblies.

Though ye offer me burnt offerings and
your meat offerings, I will not accept
them: neither will I regard the peace
offerings of your fat beasts.
Take thou away from me the noise of
thy songs; for I will not hear the melody
of thy viols.
But let judgment run down as waters,
and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and
offerings in the wilderness forty years,
O house of Israel?
But ye have borne the tabernacle of
your Moloch and Chiun your images, the
star of your god, which ye made to
yourselves.
Therefore will I cause you to go into
captivity beyond Damascus, saith the
LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

Amos 5

Sow to yourselves in righteousness,
reap in mercy; break up your fallow
ground: for it is time to seek the LORD,
till he come and rain righteousness
upon you.

Hosea 10:12

Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
Hosea 12:6

The Levites shall bear their shame

And thou shalt say to the rebellious,
even to the house of Israel, Thus saith
the Lord GOD; O ye house of Israel, let it
suffice you of all your abominations,
In that ye have brought into my
sanctuary strangers, uncircumcised in
heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be
in my sanctuary, to pollute it, even my
house, when ye offer my bread, the fat
and the blood, and they have broken my
covenant because of all your
abominations.
And ye have not kept the charge of mine
holy things: but ye have set keepers of
my charge in my sanctuary for
yourselves.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; No stranger,
uncircumcised in heart, nor
uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into
my sanctuary, of any stranger that is
among the children of Israel.
And the Levites that are gone away far
from me, when Israel went astray, which
went astray away from me after their
idols; they shall even bear their iniquity.
Yet they shall be ministers in my
sanctuary, having charge at the gates of
the house, and ministering to the house:
they shall slay the burnt offering and the
sacrifice for the people, and they shall
stand before them to minister unto
them.
Because they ministered unto them
before their idols, and caused the house
of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore
have I lifted up mine hand against them,
saith the Lord GOD, and they shall bear
their iniquity.
And they shall not come near unto me,
to do the office of a priest unto me, nor
to come near to any of my holy things,
in the most holy place: but they shall
bear their shame, and their
abominations which they have committed.
Ezekiel 44:6-13

Sheep, Cattle and Cattle

For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I,
even I, will both search my sheep, and
seek them out.
As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in
the day that he is among his sheep that
are scattered; so will I seek out my
sheep, and will deliver them out of all
places where they have been scattered
in the cloudy and dark day.
And I will bring them out from the
people, and gather them from the
countries, and will bring them to their
own land, and feed them upon the
mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in
all the inhabited places of the country.
I will feed them in a good pasture, and
upon the high mountains of Israel shall
their fold be: there shall they lie in a
good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they
feed upon the mountains of Israel.
I will feed my flock, and I will cause
them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.
I will seek that which was lost, and bring
again that which was driven away, and
will bind up that which was broken, and
will strengthen that which was sick: but
I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will
feed them with judgment.
And as for you, O my flock, thus saith
the Lord GOD; Behold, I judge between
cattle and cattle, between the rams and
the he goats.
Seemeth it a small thing unto you to
have eaten up the good pasture, but ye
must tread down with your feet the
residue of your pastures? and to have
drunk of the deep waters, but ye must
foul the residue with your feet?
And as for my flock, they eat that which
ye have trodden with your feet; and they
drink that which ye have fouled with
your feet.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto
them; Behold, I, even I, will judge
between the fat cattle and between the
lean cattle.
Because ye have thrust with side and
with shoulder, and pushed all the
diseased with your horns, till ye have
scattered them abroad;
Therefore will I save my flock, and they
shall no more be a prey; and I will judge
between cattle and cattle.
And I will set up one shepherd over
them, and he shall feed them, even my
servant David; he shall feed them, and
he shall be their shepherd.
And I the LORD will be their God, and my
servant David a prince among them; I
the LORD have spoken it.
And I will make with them a covenant of
peace, and will cause the evil beasts to
cease out of the land: and they shall
dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep
in the woods.
And I will make them and the places
round about my hill a blessing; and I will
cause the shower to come down in his
season; there shall be showers of
blessing.
And the tree of the field shall yield her
fruit, and the earth shall yield her
increase, and they shall be safe in their
land, and shall know that I am the LORD,
when I have broken the bands of their
yoke, and delivered them out of the
hand of those that served themselves
of them.
And they shall no more be a prey to the
heathen, neither shall the beast of the
land devour them; but they shall dwell
safely, and none shall make them afraid.
And I will raise up for them a plant of
renown, and they shall be no more
consumed with hunger in the land,
neither bear the shame of the heathen
any more.
Thus shall they know that I the LORD
their God am with them, and that they,
even the house of Israel, are my people,
saith the Lord GOD.
And ye my flock, the flock of my
pasture, are men, and I am your God,
saith the Lord GOD.
Ezekiel 34:11-31

Ye Shepherds

Son of man, prophesy against the
shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say
unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD
unto the shepherds; Woe be to the
shepherds of Israel that do feed
themselves! should not the shepherds
feed the flocks?
Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with
the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye
feed not the flock.
The diseased have ye not strengthened,
neither have ye healed that which was
sick, neither have ye bound up that
which was broken, neither have ye
brought again that which was driven
away, neither have ye sought that which
was lost; but with force and with cruelty
have ye ruled them.
And they were scattered, because there
is no shepherd: and they became meat
to all the beasts of the field, when they
were scattered.
My sheep wandered through all the
mountains, and upon every high hill:
yea, my flock was scattered upon all the
face of the earth, and none did search
or seek after them.
Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word
of the LORD;
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely
because my flock became a prey, and
my flock became meat to every beast of
the field, because there was no
shepherd, neither did my shepherds
search for my flock, but the shepherds
fed themselves, and fed not my flock;
Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the
word of the LORD;
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am
against the shepherds; and I will require
my flock at their hand, and cause them
to cease from feeding the flock; neither
shall the shepherds feed themselves
any more; for I will deliver my flock from
their mouth, that they may not be meat
for them.
